Study Tour and Placement Programme Week – F.2 Trip to Liannan, China

Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment.”  – Dr. Maria Montessori

From 25th to 29th September, all Form 2 students of our school went to Liannan and learnt what we call a lesson for life. During the voluntary service programme, they had the opportunity to serve as teachers at Liannan Wo Shui School and taught short lessons for the adorable primary school students there. They also had home visits to learn more about the daily lives of the local people. On the third night, they watched a traditional dance performance given by the locals. The school visit to a secondary school in Guangzhou wrapped up the trip perfectly: our students sat in during different lessons, did some sharing with the local students, and our teachers also conducted an interactive drama lesson to give the Guangzhou students a glimpse of Heep Yunn school life. It was definitely an unforgettable experience for all!

Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice. In addition to the knowledge they had gained on the trip, we believe that the most important was that they had the chance to interact with people of a different language and a different culture, respecting people who are different and caring for those who are in need. It is also certain that our F2 students have strengthened their friendships and enhanced their problem-solving skills along the way, both individually and as a team.
